An established leader in advanced automation solutions for the medical device sector is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer (Controls) to join their growing Galway-based team. This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for defining and delivering advanced control system architecture, driving innovation, and ensuring excellence in automation design and implementation across complex medical device projects.

Key Requirements:

  • Level 8 qualification in Engineering or a related discipline
  • 8+ years’ experience in industrial automation, with a strong focus on PLC/HMI development (Allen Bradley experience preferred)

  • Deep expertise in motion control, robotics, machine vision and automation of complex equipment

  • Strong communicator and team player, with a proactive and problem-solving mindset

  • Quality-focused with a structured and organised approach

  • Willingness to travel occasionally as needed (valid driving licence required)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop machine control software for PLCs, robotics, motion systems, HMI, SCADA and vision systems

  • Lead the programming, testing and commissioning of automated equipment

  • Specify control system hardware and components

  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams

  • Support technical documentation and validation deliverables (URS, FDS, FAT, etc.)

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other automation engineers
