Senior Controls Automation Engineer
Job Description
An established leader in advanced automation solutions for the medical device sector is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer (Controls) to join their growing Galway-based team. This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for defining and delivering advanced control system architecture, driving innovation, and ensuring excellence in automation design and implementation across complex medical device projects.
Key Requirements:
- Level 8 qualification in Engineering or a related discipline

8+ years’ experience in industrial automation, with a strong focus on PLC/HMI development (Allen Bradley experience preferred)

Deep expertise in motion control, robotics, machine vision and automation of complex equipment

Strong communicator and team player, with a proactive and problem-solving mindset

Quality-focused with a structured and organised approach

Willingness to travel occasionally as needed (valid driving licence required)
Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop machine control software for PLCs, robotics, motion systems, HMI, SCADA and vision systems

Lead the programming, testing and commissioning of automated equipment

Specify control system hardware and components

Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams

Support technical documentation and validation deliverables (URS, FDS, FAT, etc.)

Mentor and provide technical guidance to other automation engineers
