Senior Biomechanical Design Engineer

Galway, Co. Galway | Permanent | Hybrid

We are working with an innovative medical technology organisation to recruit a Senior Biomechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role focused on the design and development of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical medical device systems, working within a highly regulated product development environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, sub-assemblies and complex assemblies for advanced medical devices.

  • Develop test methods, measurement systems, fixtures, protocols and reports to evaluate product functionality.

  • Generate engineering specifications based on functional and performance requirements.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and lead root cause investigations.

  • Support the transition of new products into manufacturing.

  • Identify, evaluate and support external manufacturing suppliers.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and cross-functional teams.

  • Work within design control processes and prepare regulated technical documentation.

  • Ensure designs and activities comply with applicable quality system requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification advantageous.

  • 7+ years’ engineering experience within the medical device industry.

  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and ability to apply first-principles thinking to design decisions.

  • Experience with catheter-based mechanical systems and torque transmission.

  • Knowledge of complex electro-mechanical catheter systems and connection methods.

  • Experience with rotary encoders would be advantageous.

  • Strong 3D CAD and 2D drawing skills.

  • Hands-on approach with excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

  • Willingness to travel internationally, up to approximately 25%.
