Senior Data Scientist | 6–9 Month Fixed-Term Contract
Our client, a global engineering and technology organisation in Galway, is seeking a Data Scientist to join an established multidisciplinary R&D team on a 6–9 month fixed-term salaried contract.
This position offers the opportunity to work with large-scale machine and operational datasets, developing machine learning solutions that support product innovation, performance optimisation and data-driven decision-making. The successful candidate will play a key role in transforming complex machine-generated data into actionable insights and scalable analytical solutions that deliver measurable value to both engineering teams and end users.
The role would suit an individual who enjoys solving complex problems, working with real-world data, and collaborating with engineering, software and product teams to bring analytical solutions into production environments.
Please note that this position requires on-site attendance in Galway four days per week.
Responsibilities
- Apply machine learning techniques, statistical modelling and data mining methodologies to solve complex business and engineering challenges.
- Analyse large volumes of machine-generated data to identify trends, patterns and opportunities for optimisation.
- Develop predictive models and analytical solutions that improve performance, reliability and operational efficiency.
- Lead data science projects from concept through to implementation and deployment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, product and software teams to define requirements and design analytical approaches.
- Perform data exploration, feature engineering, model development, validation and performance evaluation.
- Translate analytical findings into meaningful insights, metrics and visualisations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Work with both structured and unstructured datasets to generate actionable business and engineering insights.
- Contribute to the development of scalable, production-ready machine learning solutions.
- Promote best practices in data science, analytics and machine learning.
Requirements
- Degree or Master’s qualification in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline.
- Approximately 3–5 years of professional experience in a data science, analytics or machine learning role.
- Strong understanding of supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques.
- Experience with statistical analysis, predictive modelling and advanced analytics.
- Knowledge of clustering, classification, regression and anomaly detection methodologies.
- Experience working with large datasets and transforming analytical outcomes into practical business solutions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex analytical concepts to a range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL and data visualisation tools.
- Experience leading projects or managing analytical workstreams would be advantageous.
