Cyber Security Engineer

Shannon, Co. Clare | Permanent | Onsite

We are working with an established Irish multinational to recruit a hands-on Cyber Security Engineer to join its IT team.

Cybersecurity is the core focus of this role, with responsibility for security accreditation, controls, governance and continuous improvement, while also providing support across the wider IT environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation and security audit readiness.

  • Drive improvements aligned with ISO 27001 and recognised security frameworks.

  • Manage security controls across firewalls, endpoints, cloud services, access management, patching and vulnerability management.

  • Maintain security policies, procedures and standards.

  • Manage Microsoft 365 and Azure security, including Entra ID, MFA, Intune, Defender and Sentinel.

  • Identify security risks and drive remediation through to completion.

  • Lead and coordinate cyber incidents, including investigation, containment and remediation.

  • Prepare audit documentation and evidence and support external assessments and penetration testing.

  • Deliver security awareness and acceptable-use training.

  • Act as a senior escalation point for IT issues and support Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory and VMware environments.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, IT or a related discipline.

  • 4–5 years’ hands-on IT experience with cybersecurity as a primary focus.

  • Practical experience implementing security controls aligned with frameworks such as CE+, ISO 27001, CIS or NIST.

  • Strong experience with firewalls, identity and access management, MFA, patching, vulnerability remediation and endpoint security.

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft security technologies including Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity, Sentinel, Intune and Entra ID.

  • Strong Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory and VMware experience.

  • Understanding of NIS2, GDPR and relevant security obligations.

  • Experience with security policies, audits and technical assurance.

  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, generalist IT environment.

  • Strong communication skills and a practical, delivery-focused approach.

Desirable

  • Cybersecurity certification such as Security+, SSCP or equivalent.

  • Experience with ISO 27001 implementation or ISMS development.

  • SIEM/Sentinel or incident response experience.

  • Experience supporting security certification or re-certification programmes.
