Principal / Senior Systems Engineer

Dublin, Co. Dublin | Permanent | Onsite

We are working with an established medical technology organisation to recruit a Principal / Senior Systems Engineer to join its product development team.

This is a senior technical role leading system definition and development across complex medical device projects. The successful candidate will work across electrical, mechanical and software disciplines, translating user needs into system requirements and architecture while supporting projects through development and design controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering activities across medical device development projects.

  • Translate user and stakeholder needs into clear system-level design inputs and requirements.

  • Develop and assess system architecture options with cross-functional engineering teams.

  • Decompose system requirements into subsystem and software requirements.

  • Act as system owner and technical subject matter expert for system-level decisions.

  • Apply structured, data-driven problem-solving to complex technical challenges.

  • Support regulatory, quality, verification and validation activities.

  • Work within design controls and quality management systems.

  • Facilitate technical and architectural decisions to support project delivery.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Commercial and other stakeholders.

  • Communicate technical status, risks and issues to project teams and senior leadership.

  • Identify opportunities for product improvement, innovation and process optimisation.

  • Mentor and support other engineers through knowledge sharing and technical guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or scientific discipline.

  • 8+ years’ Systems Engineering experience with complex electrical/mechanical products.

  • 5+ years’ medical device development experience.

  • Experience working with medical device standards and regulations, ideally including ISO 13485, ISO 14971 and IEC 60601.

  • Strong systems engineering principles and experience developing system architectures and requirements.

  • Excellent problem-solving, facilitation and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation/compliance focus.

  • Proactive, self-directed and comfortable taking ownership of technical challenges.
