Principal IC Design Engineer – Mixed Signal & RF
Job Description
Principal IC Design Engineer – Mixed Signal & RF
Cork | Permanent
The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal IC Design Engineer to join a global semiconductor technology organisation with an established design operation in Cork.
This is a highly technical role focused on the architecture, design, layout, characterisation and productisation of high-frequency mixed-signal integrated circuits for advanced communications applications.
You will work across the complete IC development lifecycle, from initial architecture and circuit design through laboratory characterisation and product release. The role offers the opportunity to work on RF, analogue and mixed-signal technologies at mmWave frequencies, collaborating with test, applications and product engineering teams.
This position would suit an experienced IC designer who enjoys solving complex circuit challenges and wants to take ownership of technically demanding semiconductor products from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities
-
Architect and design high-frequency RF, analogue and mixed-signal ICs from concept through to product release.
-
Develop schematic designs and support IC layout for advanced semiconductor technologies.
-
Work on high-speed analogue circuits and signal-chain solutions for demanding communications applications.
-
Characterise ICs hands-on in the laboratory, analyse performance and drive design improvements.
-
Support products throughout the complete development and productisation lifecycle.
-
Work closely with test, applications and product engineering teams.
-
Provide technical support to customers and contribute to resolving complex application challenges.
-
Lead technical activities within assigned projects and contribute to project planning and delivery.
-
Communicate complex technical concepts and design decisions to engineering and management stakeholders.
-
Support and mentor other engineers and contribute to technical leadership within the wider design team.
Technical Expertise
-
Extensive experience in RF, analogue or mixed-signal IC design.
-
Strong understanding of RF CMOS, SiGe or silicon-based IC technologies.
-
Proven experience designing high-frequency/mmWave integrated circuits.
-
Strong analogue circuit design fundamentals.
-
Expert knowledge of Cadence schematic and layout tools.
-
Experience with high-speed analogue circuits and communications applications.
-
Hands-on experience characterising ICs in a laboratory environment.
-
Experience with electromagnetic modelling tools such as ADS, HFSS or Sonnet would be advantageous.
-
Strong understanding of the complete IC development and productisation process.
Experience & Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree with approximately 12+ years’ IC design experience, or Master’s with 10+ years, or PhD with 6+ years’ relevant experience.
-
Proven track record in RF, analogue, mixed-signal or mmWave IC design.
-
Experience taking integrated circuits from architecture and design through characterisation and product release.
-
Strong technical leadership and problem-solving capability.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
