Mechanical Design Engineer

Wexford, Co. Wexford | Permanent | Office Based

We are working with an established technology and engineering organisation to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its product development team.

This is a hands-on role focused on developing mechanical and thermal solutions for complex engineered products, working closely with multidisciplinary R&D, testing, quality, prototyping and production teams.

The role offers the opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle, from concept and design through to prototyping, validation and production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical concepts, assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings.

  • Lead mechanical design and thermal management activities across projects.

  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes.

  • Balance mechanical, thermal, EMC, safety, cost and manufacturing requirements.

  • Produce assembly drawings, work instructions, labels and technical documentation.

  • Liaise with suppliers regarding technical requirements, cost and delivery.

  • Produce product datasheets and technical visuals.

  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to design decisions.

  • Work closely with R&D, prototyping and production teams to transition designs into manufacture.

  • Identify opportunities to improve design processes, efficiency and product quality.

Requirements

  • Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Good understanding of thermal management, material properties and material selection.

  • Strong CAD experience, ideally Solid Edge or a similar package.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, machining, injection moulding and 3D printing.

  • 3–10 years’ relevant experience; talented graduates will also be considered.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Self-motivated, curious and willing to learn.

  • Comfortable using data and evidence to inform engineering decisions.

  • Enjoys solving challenging technical problems and developing practical solutions.
