Lead Electronic Design Engineer

Our client, a global technology and engineering organisation, is seeking a Lead Electronic Design Engineer to join its R&D team in Cork.

This is a senior technical leadership position offering the opportunity to lead the development of next-generation electronic products and technologies within a highly innovative engineering environment. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with product development leadership, guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams from concept through to commercialisation.

The role is particularly suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring engineering teams and contributing to the development of innovative products in high-reliability applications.

Please note that this is an on-site position based in Cork.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team through all stages of product development.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Support the professional development of engineers through coaching, guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide technical leadership across complex development programmes and strategic engineering initiatives.

Product Development & Innovation

  • Drive the development of advanced electronic systems from concept generation through design, validation and product launch.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for future product innovation.
  • Translate research concepts into practical engineering solutions and commercially viable products.
  • Work closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, programme management and supply chain teams to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Support the transfer of technologies from advanced research into formal product development programmes.

Design & Engineering

  • Lead the design, analysis and development of complex electronic systems and subsystems.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, quality, cost and schedule objectives.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues relating to product performance, reliability and manufacturability.
  • Provide technical oversight for system integration, testing, verification and validation activities.
  • Support compliance with relevant industry, safety and regulatory standards.
  • Drive structured problem-solving and continuous improvement across engineering activities.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in complex electronic product design and development.
  • Demonstrated progression of technical responsibility throughout your career.
  • Proven experience developing innovative electronic products from concept through to production.
  • Strong understanding of electronic system design, power electronics, control systems or related technical disciplines.
  • Experience leading technical projects and influencing engineering decisions across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical priorities within a fast-paced development environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Power Electronics or a related discipline.
  • Experience within medical technology, healthcare devices or other highly regulated industries.
  • Exposure to high-reliability, safety-critical or mission-critical systems.
  • Experience developing intellectual property, novel technologies or first-of-kind products.
  • Knowledge of advanced power conversion technologies, high-frequency systems or energy delivery systems.
  • Experience supporting products through research, development, verification and manufacturing phases.
